I would agree that some references to dragons are indeed allegorical references to Satan, for it was our shape which Satan immitated when he deceived Eve. Nevertheless, I do not think that all references are allegorical. According to Cruden's Concordance, "The Hebrew word tannin seems to refer to any great monster of land or sea, usually some kind of serpent or reptile, but not invariably." Those who created the Kings James translation, (the earliest translation when the actual meaning of the original might have been more familiar) chose to translate the word as dragons. Deny the truth of it if you wish, but the word is there.
